Dear Mr. Koki Ando, President, Chief Executive Officer Of Nissin Foods,
Conflict Palm Oil is enslaving workers, killing endangered orangutans, and destroying Indonesia’s rainforest. I will not stand for it in my home.
Your company has taken a first step by adopting a new palm oil policy, but its commitment falls short as it continues to rely on the insufficient standards of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
As a matter of urgency, Nissin Foods must strengthen its commitment to protect rainforests and peatlands and uphold human rights including land rights of Indigenous and local community and labor rights. This is especially important if your company intends to supply responsibly produced products for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
As a major consumer of palm oil, your company has a responsibility to ensure that it is not sourcing Conflict Palm Oil. For years, your company has failed to keep pace with its peers that have strengthened their palm oil procurement policies to meet the new global benchmark for responsible palm oil production.
