Tell Nissin Foods: Do it now - end deforestation

So far, Nissin’s made only vague promises for 2030 when it comes to protecting rainforests AND is refusing to be transparent about where all those tons of palm oil are coming from.

But our rainforests and everyone who depends on them can’t wait until then - tell Nissin’s US CEO Michael Price and VP of Supply Chain Rich Turk “DO IT NOW” and to stop dishing out deforestation!

In August 2020, Nissin Foods responded to mounting pressure by adopting a new “Commitment to the Procurement of Sustainable Palm Oil,” mentioning zero deforestation and respecting human rights, but unfortunately your company announced that the promises would be met by 2030. Such a decade-long delay in eliminating Conflict Palm Oil from instant noodles is unacceptable.

Nissin Foods must put its palm oil policy into action NOW, not in 2030.

Nissin Foods must:

1. Develop and publish a binding, time-bound plan immediately to ensure its products are free of Conflict Palm Oil from its supply chain way before 2030;
2. Disclose its full list of palm oil suppliers and demonstrate enforcement of the new commitment;
3. Demonstrate enforcement of the new commitment via establishing a new system to monitor and independently verify its suppliers' adherence to its policy;  and
4. Take all the actions detailed in our Keep Forests Standing scorecard to improve its 'F' grade, starting with revising Nissin Foods group procurement policy to require 'No Deforestation, No Peatland and No Exploitation' for all forest-risk commodities.

Nissin Foods' current approach of sourcing so-called sustainable RSPO "Mass balance" palm oil -- a mix of certified and untraceable controversial palm oil -- is not addressing its connection to deforestation or human rights violations and the RSPO's assurance systems can not yet be trusted. 
 
 Nissin Foods is a globally renowned brand and the inventor of instant ramen.-- it is time for it to become a true champion in defending forests and human rights.
