Ferrero & Mondelēz: NDPE policy now
Protecting our last rainforests is actually not that complicated: A robust “No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation” (NDPE) policy would clearly prohibit sourcing palm oil from ANY plantation, mill, supplier or agribusiness that is guilty of even one of these destructive practices. And both Mondelēz and Ferrero have promised to implement these policies, but their progress have been too little, too slow.
Let’s send these two candy giants some *sweet* reminders that they still need to deliver on their promises!
To Ferrero North America and Mondelēz,
An annual scorecard by Rainforest Action Network evaluated how influential banks and brands are treating rainforests and the people who depend on them. These companies have failed to take adequate action to address their contribution to the destruction of forests, ongoing land grabs, and violence against local and Indigenous communities.
I call on your companies to immediately suspend RGE and investigate and disclose the footprint of your supply chains on global forests, Indigenous Peoples, and frontline communities. And to immediately adopt and implement ‘No Deforestation, No Peatland and No Exploitation’ (NDPE) policies across all commodities, and adopt a zero tolerance policy for violence and intimidation of human rights defenders.
Please show the world that your company is taking the urgent climate, biodiversity, and human rights crisis seriously. We still have a chance to keep forests standing, but there is no time to waste.
Kind regards,
