Calendar Jam: Demand that Bank & Insurance CEOs Drop Trans Mountain

The Trans Mountain tar sands pipeline stretches 710 miles across Western Canada, and the current expansion plan would triple the pipeline’s oil exports. Tar sands oil is one of the most destructive fossil fuels on the planet: it releases 3x as much greenhouse gas pollution as conventional oil, and its extraction and transport poses grave threats to local ecosystems, waterways, and Indigenous land rights.

It’s absolutely critical that construction of the Trans Mountain Pipeline is stopped in its tracks. That’s why we’re targeting the insurers and banks behind this destructive project. To date, 18 insurers have cut ties or ruled out the expansion project, but it still has critical insurance and finance support.

Today, we’re filling the calendars of CEOs at 6 insurers that have yet to cut ties with Trans Mountain – Apollo, Beazley, CNA Hardy, Liberty Mutual, Starr Companies, and W.R. Berkley – and at 6 big Canadian banks that just signed a loan for Trans Mountain – Bank of Montreal (BMO), Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), National Bank of Canada (NBC), Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), Scotiabank, and Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD).

Join us to demand that these companies cut ties with Trans Mountain today!

HOW TO JOIN THE CALENDAR JAM:
1. Open your calendar app, such as Gmail or Outlook. We’re going to be sending calendar invites to CEOs of 6 insurance companies and 6 banks that have not yet cut ties with Trans Mountain (and to RAN to track our collective impact!).

2. Pick a time in your calendar between June 27 & July 1 between the hours of 9am & 5pm EST. Title your meeting with some of our samples below – or get creative!

  • Time to cut ties with Trans Mountain
  • Announce that we’re dropping Trans Mountain
  • Stop Backing Tar Sands Expansion
  • Respect Indigenous Rights: Drop Trans Mountain

3. Copy ALL the following email addresses to the invite field:

[email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]

4. Click “send invitations” so the executives get an email notification.

5. Rinse & repeat!

*Hot tip: multiple invitations are more effective than long events. The CEOs will have to decline each and every invitation, making it literally impossible to ignore our calendar invitations. ;)
