Help us tell Mars: Stop the spooky greenwashing!
To Mars Incorporated:
The world’s forests and climate are at a perilous tipping point, yet global warming and mass extinction continue unabated as corporations like Mars wreak havoc on forests and biodiversity.
Half of the global economy, and all of organized human society, rely on biodiversity and the health of major ecosystems to keep functioning. Yet Mars continues to fuel tropical deforestation while failing to protect the frontline communities who are fighting to defend their lands against this assault.
Through it all, Mars claims to have 100% deforestation-free palm oil supply chains — without disclosing any proof or third-party verification. I’m calling on Mars to end deforestation in all forest-risk commodity supply chains and provide independent verification of its claims.
Stop the greenwash! Mars’ can’t claim to be “deforestation-free,” when it is a known fact that Mars suppliers have not ended deforestation across their own supply chains.
By not seeking to ensure that your suppliers are living up to the values that Mars claims to hold, Mars is continuing to contribute to humanity’s multiple, grave crises under a thin veneer of greenwashing.
