My message to Jon Moeller:

Procter & Gamble is the world’s largest multinational consumer goods company and has a huge impact around the world — yet it continues to fuel environmental destruction and human rights violations throughout its supply chains.

Despite P&G’s promises to fight deforestation and human rights abuses, it knowingly sources product ingredients from suppliers who are complicit in destroying critical forests and the livelihoods of Indigenous communities.

P&G is buying pulp from companies in Canada’s boreal forest that are violating community rights and logging pristine forests — forests that we need to keep standing to protect the climate.

In Indonesia, one of P&G’s largest palm oil suppliers is the notorious company Royal Golden Eagle, connected to a controversial pulp and paper company called Toba Pulp Lestari (TPL), which has been operating on dozens of Batak Indigenous lands in North Sumatra, Indonesia, without community consent.

P&G is linked to illegal deforestation in the Leuser Ecosystem, one of the world’s most precious remaining rainforests and the last place on Earth where Sumatran orangutans, tigers, rhinos and elephants still live together in the wild.

And despite other major corporations adopting policies to protect human rights defenders — activists who put their lives and freedom on the line to protect their communities and the environment from the very producers you source from — P&G has yet to follow suit.

We’re calling on P&G to stop buying from destructive suppliers and to deliver on its promises to protect forests and the rights of communities around the world, including adopting policies to protect vulnerable human rights defenders from violent and corrupt producers.
