Demand Citi and BNP Paribas stop financing nickel destruction on Obi Island

Banks are calling nickel mining a “green investment” but on Obi Island, communities are paying the price.

Nickel mining has replaced rainforest with open-pit mines, polluted local waterways, and threatened the health, safety, and rights of nearby communities. This destruction is being enabled by major global banks, including Citi.

A clean energy future cannot be built on rainforest destruction, poisoned water, and human rights abuses.

Add your name to demand that Citi Bank and BNP Paribas stop financing companies linked to environmental harm and community rights violations on Obi Island.

To Citi and BNP Paribas:

We call on you to stop financing nickel mining and processing companies linked to environmental destruction, water pollution, and harm to communities on Obi Island.

Nickel is being promoted as essential to the clean energy transition, but “green” technology cannot come at the expense of Indigenous and local communities, forests, clean water, and human rights.

Banks must end their financial support for companies driving destruction on Obi Island and adopt stronger policies that prevent financing for projects tied to deforestation, pollution, and community harm.

Respect communities. Protect biodiversity. Stop bankrolling destruction.
